Adrenal disease occurs when the adrenal glands produce too much or too little hormones. The adrenal glands are located on the top of the kidney are responsible for releasing different hormones such as adrenaline in times of stress, and steroid hormones cortisol and aldosterone.
At times an adrenal nodule can form which happens when normal tissue grows into a lump. Most nodules are incidental and do cause any health problems, however they need to be evaluated for signs of excess hormone production or suspicion of malignancy.
