Metabolic disease is seen as a cluster of conditions combined increase the risk of heart disease, stroke and type 2 diabetes. These conditions can include increased blood pressure, high blood sugar, excess body fat around the waist, and abnormal cholesterol or triglyceride levels.
Experts have not determined why metabolic syndrome develops. It’s a collection of risk factors, not a single disease. So there may be many underlying casues. Fortunately diet, exercise, and medications can help manage it.
